Job Description:


Perform various administrative support functions relating to supporting the day to day service activities, including accurate entry of technicians’ service orders and daily time tracking documents into Norhtwind’s Enterprise Application. In addition, support a project implementation of system improvements on an as needed basis.  Approximately 25 hours per week, may flex up during busy periods.


·        Experience in MS Office and typical Enterprise Applications – Experience working in NetSuite considered advantageous

·        Accurate and timely data entry skills

·        Basic understanding of cost accounting as it applies to a service business

·        High school diploma or equivalent at minimum

·        Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and field technicians Ability to get to Northwind’s Oakville office on a daily basis and comfortable with flexible and varying hours (predominately working in Mon-Fri, 8 to 5 hours





SCADA Analyst / Administrator – Oakville, Ontario.

Northwind Solutions is a progressive, customer focused service and solutions provider of monitoring, operations and maintenance dedicated to renewable energy assets for project owners, operators and OEMS.  Northwind was established in 2004 and has project experience at over 65 wind farms, over 300MW of solar PV and has delivered services in 15 US states and 7 provinces over the past decade in business.


General Description:

This position is located in Oakville, Ontario at our 24 hour operations centre, the Monitoring and Operations Centre Analyst will be responsible for the implementation of a new SCADA system and reporting application; and be involved in its ongoing performance and improvements upon implementation.  In addition, the candidate will be part of the team which analyzes renewable energy asset generation and works as part of the operations team


 Detailed Description:

Seeking a CUSTOMER FOCUSED experienced Network, HMI, SCADA System Administrator / Engineer. This position will be responsible for configuring a cloud based SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system.   Must have proven experience in HMI, or SCADA logic and programming with any of the following software packages: Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, US Data, PLC logic or equivilents.  Must be familiar with data map tagging conventions, data logging and reporting, boolean logic, symbol conventions, etc.  This position will be responsible for all aspects of a project including design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up.  Experience with external paging, alarming, reporting packages, Java, and Visual Basic programming is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in programming and system configuration as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation.  This person will be the project technical lead for an implementation and may be responsible for some project management activities.  In addition, this role will include regular operational responsibilities in our Monitoring and Operations Centre which includes email and phone communication with, internal management team, company technicians, customers and the Ontario Grid Control Centre. 

A bachelor in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering is desired however engineering technician and technologists will be evaluated. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position is required. 

Experience in power generation, renewable energy, instrumentation and protective relaying, medium voltage and distribution networks is a plus.



Key Responsibilities


During Implementation Phase:


  • Provide network and IT services in the implementation of a cloud based SCADA system
  • Provide support, design, and programming of Java based software including upgrades and adjustments
  • Maximize network performance and provide troubleshooting techniques for both office and field staff
  • Have experience in networking hardware and design and be able to provide field support as necessary
  • Be a lead role in the training, design, and support of a SCADA system for power generation facilities including report design
  • Have knowledge and experience in data communications protocols and computer operating systems such as Windows and Linux

Post Implementation:


  • Remote monitoring, analysis of solar and wind assets including resetting of wind turbines and other plant equipment
  • Monitoring weather at sites for safety of maintenance technicians
  • Outage reporting to customers and internal stake holders
  • Determination of site issues and decisions to dispatch
  • Review and understand regional technician skills and schedules
  • Technicians dispatching and regular communication with a focus on customer needs and travel efficiencies
  • Communication with Field Technicians, System operator, customers, and power markets
  • Analysis of data to support technician staff in the diagnosis and resolution of issues in the field
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of SCADA system configuration and system reporting
